Our Favourite Things
This is where we share our favourite things that are helping us achieve our goals. This page does include affiliate links, which means we may receive compensation from the seller if you make a purchase, but we are only recommending things that we have used ourselves and highly recommend.
Easy Healthy Living
Easy healthy living is all about ensuring that we do everything possible to lead a long and healthy life. For us this is incredibly important for two reasons: 1) we’ve individually struggled with setbacks affecting mobility and health and 2) we want to ensure we live as long as possible to be there for our daughter who is on the autism spectrum.
Vitamix Pro 750 Blender – This is the blender that we love and use nearly every single day. In fact, it is one of the only things allowed on our kitchen countertop besides the coffee maker. After nearly three years of daily use this blender just keeps on giving the perfect blend. Vitamix has a new Ascent Series of blenders that could also be a good fit for anyone looking for a high quality blend with the versatility of different jar sizes. The great thing about Vitamix? Well, too many to name but they are easy to clean, replace many household appliances and can make anything from smoothies to hot beverages to soups to dips. We share recipes over at Blender Happy if you need inspiration.
Creating Portable Income
Many of our favourite items are geared towards bloggers but as we get further along in our journey we’ll share a broader range of items.
If you are a blogger then you likely already know the power of Pinterest. But you likely also know how time intensive it can be if you aren’t careful. That’s where a tool like Tailwind comes in. It allows you to schedule your pins, participate in “Tribes” that make it so easy to find relevant content to share to your boards and ultimately your followers. It also provides some handy analytics to help you better manage and promote your brand. You can try it free and monthly plans start at $9.99.
If you are using WordPress for your blog (and highly recommend you do) then you should consider the Genesis Framework from StudioPress. Using this framework you can easily and quickly get your blog up and running. Your site will be mobile optimized and easily customized. Genesis has a one time fee of $59.95 (as of April 17, 2017). If you will be taking photography or doing video, you may want to consider investing in a good mid-range DSLR camera that can do both. We have used Canon for many years. First we started out with an entry-level Canon Rebel and more recently upgraded to the 70D which is a cropped sensor camera and allowed us to re-use the lenses we had already invested in with the Rebel.
If you are getting ready to start your blog or website and looking for a good, reliable web host then you should check out SiteGround. I’ve been using it for multiple sites for 2+ years and never had any major issue. The support has been great and when you are just starting out it is very affordable (starts at $3,95/mo).
