What is ebates?
If you are an online shopper then Ebates could be your new best friend. If you haven’t already signed up, what are you waiting for? Ebates allows you to earn cash back on your purchases from a large number of retailers and I love it because I get cash back on purchases I would be making anyway.
Since joining Ebates, I’ve earned over $900 shopping from home and buying a wide range of items. My favourite stores in Canada to earn Ebates cashback are:
- Banana Republic
- Old Navy – I buy all my daughters “uniforms” here.
- Hudson’s Bay
- Chapters Indigo
- Joe Fresh
Signing up for ebates is quick and easy
You can sign up with your email or use your Facebook credentials. In the US you also have the option to use your Google credentials. When signing up, you will often find a cash bonus offer. Currently, the offer is $5 in Canada and $10 in the US.
Picking your cash back options
Once you are signed up, you can choose how to get your Cash Back. Once again, there are a few differences in Canada and the US. In both cases you can select Paypal or Cheque/Check as payment method. In Canada, you can also choose to receive electronic gift cards from Amazon.ca.
Maximizing your ebates cash back
Remember: We are not advocating to go on a shopping spree now that you’ve signed up for Ebates. We are all about responsible shopping here at The 7 Year Plan.
There are a few easy ways to maximize your cash back.
- Check the Ebates store listing before making any online purchases.
- Download the Ebates App (Android or iOS)
- Keep an eye on Ebates emails highlighting special offers or double cash back.
- *New* – Add your Credit Card to your profile and earn cash back at a number of physical stores.
- Add the Ebates Chrome Extension and get reminded of cash back offers when you browse one of the participating online stores. You’ll get a pop up in your browser that looks something like this:
Always double check
I’m still kicking myself over a big missed cash back opportunity.
I booked an all-inclusive trip a couple of months ago and I swear I checked Ebates to see if Air Canada Vacations offered Cash back. I didn’t see it and then booked the vacation anyway. A couple of days later I saw Air Canada Vacations offering 4%. Now, I can’t be 100% sure that I actually missed out since there is a chance that Air Canada Vacations was a new addition but if I did miss it then I lost out on a couple of hundred dollars. That sure had me kicking myself. Don’t let this happen to you! Download the Ebates Chrome Extension and never miss out on a cash back opportunity again.
AnOther way to make money with ebates
Invite your friends! You can create your own referral links and invite your friends via email or Facebook to join Ebates. In Canada, you will earn $10 and your friend $5 after they join and make a purchase of $25 or more through one of the Ebates partners.
The US has an Influencer Program where you can earn $25 for every qualified referral. In addition, other perks are available.
So, How will you spend your new ebates cashback?
As you’ve seen above, I love Ebates. I can only guess that the way I feel after earning money for buying something I need online is similar to how it felt in the 80s when you got a really valuable coupon in the flyer for something you’d actually buy. I get almost giddy tracking my Ebates cash-back and even happier when I get my quarterly deposit to PayPal.
So, how do you plan to spend your Ebates cash-back? New shoes, vacation or maybe add to your rainy day fund? Share below in the comments. We’d love to hear from you.
